Stanza 1
- When I was with my crush, he would take away my pain and sadness. I didn't know how how he had the power to do that.
- I compared him to medicine. There are medications that help with depression (sadness) just how he was able to help me.
- I thought of my crush as my universe. He was my center of attention at school, making him my star. I wanted him to show me that he loved me back.
- Further showed that I wanted him to love me and to find that love by looking inside.
- I also took into account that love comes out of nowhere, and that this crush developed so quickly.
- I am head over heels for him, even if he hasn't returned the love back. (locked me down with his key)
Stanza 5
- Emits a tone of hope that he will notice and love me.
- I think he is the only one.

Love Comes Along
I wrote this in contrast to my first poem. This poem emits a sad and lonely tone showing the sad side of love.
Stanza 1
Stanza 1
- Only 2 lines and already gives us an idea that it will not be a happy tone using the word toxic.
- Personifies love but we don't learn much about his appearance. Instead we learn what he stands for.
- Shows that the speaker's love was short and deep. They had passion but it burnt our quickly. Both were left in darkness.
- Compares the speaker's love to Icarus and the love for the sun. The speaker loved too close and too much pushing away her lover.
- Sets the tone of the poem. The speaker reminds us that love is not always mutual, and that you can fall for someone but they may not catch you (return the feelings).
Defense of Poetry
Poetry should be incorporated into our daily lives. It is an ancient art that depends on sense, emotions, and feelings. Poets try to create new experiences for the reader while expanding reader’s understanding of the world. Poetry helps us as a community to get to know each other. We learn about people’s lives as they paint a picture with their choices of words and use of literary devices. This helps us understand people we have never met before. In "Annabel Lee", Edgar Allan Poe creates a picture in our mind of a kingdom by the sea and angels that came to kill his girlfriend. We see Poe's mental state in his poem as he repeats the angels have killed Annabel and he lives by her grave. Poetry could also be used to send a message. In "When You Are Old" by W.B. Beats sends a direct message to Gonne that she will regret not loving him back. The message is not always easy to find and readers might have to read the poem a few times to find the underlying theme. We also see the beauty and ugliness of the world when we read poetry. It is also a safe medium to express angst. People can use poetry as an outlet or escape from their real world. Writing poetry builds on our vocabulary and makes you think outside the box. When I write poetry I find that I am in a different mindset than just writing a short story or essay. Essays are more factual and short stories directly tells the reader a story. Poetry is able to tell a story using literary devices and leaves it to the reader to see how they interpret it. The poems extend to all members of society that build emotional resilience while gaining insight and strength. It can also remind us to not take everything so literally. Instead we must search for a hidden meaning. Each poem affects an individual differently. We read poetry to experience different emotions and to remind ourselves that we are not alone. Whether its feelings of happiness or regrets, there is a poem out there that one could always relate too. It is a multi-dimensional language that does not only involve and challenge one’s understandings but must involve the reader’s sense, intelligence, emotions, and imaginations. It achieves its extra dimensions by using devices like metaphors, allusions, sound, repetition, rhythm, irony, symbol, connotation and imagery. Using these devices and what we learn in life, poetry comes alive on the page.
